Global: Invacare’s 2025 Move for Mobility campaign engaged over 400 participants across 15 countries, raising nearly £20,000 to provide 251 wheelchairs to remote communities, reinforcing its six-year partnership with Free Wheelchair Mission and commitment to improving independence for people with disabilities worldwide.
Mobility solutions provider Invacare has once again demonstrated its commitment to improving lives globally through its annual Move for Mobility fundraising campaign. Held throughout May 2025, the campaign saw more than 400 employees and partners from 15 countries engaging in a variety of physical activities—including wakeboarding, archery, gymnastics, wheelchair basketball, boxing, rugby, walking, and other events—to raise nearly £20,000. These funds translated into 251 additional wheelchairs gifted to individuals living in remote and under-resourced communities who otherwise lack access to mobility equipment.
This successful campaign is part of Invacare’s ongoing partnership with Free Wheelchair Mission, a humanitarian non-profit organisation distributing durable, cost-effective wheelchairs at no cost to people in need across 95 countries. Since the partnership began six years ago, Invacare has contributed its engineering and distribution expertise, helping to deliver over 1.5 million wheelchairs worldwide. Each wheelchair is designed to provide not only mobility but also independence, dignity, and improved quality of life to recipients who often face significant mobility barriers.
Invacare’s CEO, Geoff Purtill, celebrated the enthusiasm and energy shown by participants. Speaking about the campaign’s impact, he noted that “raising US$24,096 means we can now fund 251 additional wheelchairs—providing mobility, independence, and dignity to people who otherwise would go without.” The company has raised over US$50,000 in just over a year for the Free Wheelchair Mission, with a clear ambition to continue supporting this life-transforming cause.
The Move for Mobility initiative has steadily grown since its inception. In 2024, Invacare’s first campaign involved 425 employees from 20 countries, raising more than $28,000. The funds enabled the distribution of 294 wheelchairs. Activities ranged from surfing and mountaineering to yoga and horse riding, highlighting broad engagement across various cultures and fitness levels. The event has resonated deeply within the company, reinforcing its mission to make life’s experiences possible for those with disabilities worldwide.
Free Wheelchair Mission CEO, Nuka Hart, expressed gratitude for Invacare’s dedication, saying, “We are incredibly grateful for our continued partnership with Invacare and deeply inspired by the passion and dedication their team brings to the Move for Mobility campaign.” She emphasised how the funds raised provide not just wheelchairs, but a gift that significantly transforms the lives of individuals and their families.
Adding to this momentum, the 2025 Move for Mobility campaign invited participants to embrace various physical challenges throughout May, including running, swimming, biking, and hiking, to raise further funds. Each $96 donation covered the cost of one wheelchair—underscoring the tangible impact that even modest contributions can have.
The ongoing success of this campaign comes at a time of strategic corporate change for Invacare, with transatlantic private equity firm Rhône announcing plans to acquire a majority shareholding in both Invacare and Direct Healthcare Group. This development signals potential new growth and investment opportunities for the company, which continues to prioritise its social impact initiatives.
In summary, the Move for Mobility campaign exemplifies how corporate social responsibility, employee engagement, and meaningful international partnerships can combine to deliver life-changing benefits. By empowering people with increased mobility, Invacare and Free Wheelchair Mission are not only enhancing individual lives but also fostering inclusion and independence in communities worldwide.
